thanks...i sure hope that i can help keep my girls on track. i had to learn the hard way that i have to be more involved. that even though i may think they're able to do it on their own because i think they're smart enough, that deep down they still want and/or need my guidance. glad you stopped by and i definitely will visit again. i've been sorta bad w visiting blogs as of late since i started school and such :)

As a former high school English teacher, I can tell you that involved parents make a HUGE difference in a child's success in school. Good for you getting on your girls now! I hope they have a great school year.

you can open comments in two places. either under all that gibberish about
stumble, digg, share on facebook, etc. or down below where it has view
comments below where it says reactions. usually, if you just click on the
post title you'll see a place to put your comments. or are you having issues
with some kind of login?

yeah, i hope my girls don't find husbands even until maybe AFTER college.

I'm all over your post here.. i have the same conversations.. not if but WHEN you goto college.. and THAT's where you will find a spouse.. not in high school.. IN COLLEGE!!

jenni-that's what i want to do w my girls. i already know i'm not going to be able to afford college tuition. it's up to them to find some kind of grants or scholarships through researching and lots of hard work. wish i was rich, damn it lol oh well.

It's true...you really have to set them on the right path as early as you can!

I am already trying to talk my 4th grader into earning scholarships! LOL!

sm-i agree that not everyone is not meant to attend college. my son does
more learning out in the real world than he does in the confines of a
learning institution. most books that college students are required to read
for college English courses he has read all through middle and high school.
he can write songs, poems, short stories with words that i often have to
look up the meaning for. he's also a good cook. i think if he would just get
his g.e.d. and maybe cooking school could be something he would enjoy.

my next post in this series are things you can do in middle school to pave
the road the college. while i'm sure it's not for everyone, it can
definitely be some kind of guide. it is not my own personal guide though i
might interject an item or two into it :)

I truly believe each grade is a stepping stone into college. It can prepare you to handle college if you have a solid education behind you. While my husband and I decided to send our girls to private schools because of the low quality of education in our city's public schools, I don't regret a penny. I believe the oldest received and the youngest is receiving a solid foundation for college. It is necessary in this day and age to have a college education to get at least in most doors of employers. It's a fact of life.
That said, not everyone is meant to attend college. Maybe your son is one of those. I have relatives who went to trade school instead of college. I've also had relatives who entered into the military.
